I wanted to formally give you some important updates in the administration of Higher Education Grants. As I am sure you are all aware, the Kickapoo Tribe, like all governments, are presently facing significant economic challenges where the funding has been extremely limited. Due to funding shortages, students will be selected for these grants on a priority basis. This office has administered grants using this priority eligibility schedule in the past. Thanks you for your patients.

PRIORITY ELIGIBILITY FOR HIGHER EDUCATION GRANTS

 

 

  • Returning students who have met the requirements of the grant which are successfully completing 12 credit hours per semester and maintaining a 2.0 grade point average.
  • Returning students who are on probation but have made satisfactory progress to meet the requirements as listed above.
  • Freshman or other eligible undergraduate students who have never received a grant.
  • Returning students with a "0" need as established by the college/ university financial aid office.
  • New students with a "0" need as established by the college/ university financial aid office.

 

 

The Bureau of Indian Affairs grants are based on the financial aid guideline of Pell which are used by the colleges/ universities.

 

Undergraduates/ graduate grant recipients are eligible for financial assistance for a maximum of 10 cumulative semesters or 15 cumulative quarters in order complete a degree

Attention: Education Department To Whom It May Concern:

 

United Tribes of Kansas & Southeast Nebraska, Inc. is looking for eligible Native American students that are in currently Higher Education programs, or wanting to get enrolled in a Higher Education program or Technical school. We offer Education & Training program scholarships for those students that may be eligible. The applicant MUST have a Tribal card to be considered. We also offer assistance for Native Americans to obtain their GED.

 

Please share this information with your tribal members. We would appreciate you including this in future newsletters. Could you please send us a current list of all of your members enrolled in a Higher Education program, so we can send this information to them directly.

GOAL:

To provide all eligible Kickapoo Tribal members an opportunity to expand and enhance their higher education by providing funds under:

  1. Bureau of Indian Affairs – Adult Education

  2. Bureau of Indian Affairs – Adult Vocation Education

  3. Bureau of Indian Affairs – Scholarships

  4. Tribal Supplemental – Graduate Program (supplements BIA programs)

ADULT EDUCATION:

  1. Copy of CDIB

  2. Letter requesting assistance

  3. Verification of class, workshop or conference, subject, duration

Costs involved: address for payment (part-time classes up to 9 hours).
Please have a complete application into the office at least (1) month prior for prompt payment to college or agency.

  • Will pay online class fees

  • Copy of grades, certificate of completion

  • GED classes are priority
  • Not to exceed $1,200 per tribal member, per 12-month contract period

ADULT VOCATIONAL EDUCATION:

  1. Letter for applicant

  2. Copy of acceptance for admission

  3. Copy of CDIB card

  4. Transcripts, copy of diploma or verification of GED

  5. Verification for all non-bureau aid, including Pell Grants

  6. Financial needs analysis completed by the financial aid officer

  7. Student must maintain required GPA
    (A copy of grades much be provided before any funds will be released for the next semester.)

  1. Limitation on repeated courses

SCHOLARSHIPS:

  1. Personal letter

  2. Copy of CDIB card

  3. Complete Pell Grant

  4. Copy of acceptance for admission

  5. Financial needs analysis completed by the financial aid office

  6. Freshman are required to submit SAT or ACT scores

  7. Complete high school transcripts or complete college transcripts

  8. Juniors statues-degree evaluation (60) credit hours or more

DEADLINES:

APRIL 1, SUMMER SCHOOL TERM

JULY 1, ACADEMIC YEAR OR FALL TERM

NOVEMBER 1, SPRING SCHOOL TERM

GRADUATE PROGRAM:

Same deadlines as noted above in Scholarship.

  • Personal letter

  • Financial needs analysis completed by the financial aid office

  • Copies of complete official college transcripts

  • A degree evaluation for all students to complete the graduate program

  • Forms/ audits/ time frame

The Kickapoo Education committee meets after each deadline for scholarships, April 15, July 15, and November 15, or when deemed necessary.
