KICKAPOO LAND OFFICE
Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas
Land Office Mission Statement
The goals of the Kickapoo Land Office (KLO) are
to purchase lands for the beneficial use of the Kickapoo Tribe; to gather
and maintain land records in an orderly and accessible system; to provide
technical assistance to land owners and to develop geographic information
and mapping that is available and serviceable for all tribal programs
to improve delivery of services.
The objectives of the Kickapoo Land Office (KLO) are to purchase lands
within the Kickapoo Reservation and to aggressively pursue trust status
for tribal fee lands and to initiate action to acquire lands for the
Plum Creek Reservoir. The Plum Creek Reservoir is a major project which
will solve water issues for the Kickapoo Tribe for many years to come.
The benefits of having an ample water supply are many and impact reservation
development and improvement.
The philosophy of the Land Office is based on an anonymous Indian proverb:
“TREAT THE EARTH WELL: IT WAS NOT GIVEN
TO YOU BY YOUR PARENTS, IT WAS LOANED TO YOU BY YOUR CHILDREN. WE DO
NOT INHERIT THE EARTH FROM OUR ANCESTORS - WE BORROW IT FROM OUR CHILDREN.”
